The International Trade in Endangered Species Act 2008 (Act 686) under Section 6 (1) of the First Schedule states that the Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB) is a Management Authority (MA) and Section 19 of the Second Schedule, states that MTIB is an Enforcement Officer (EO) for CITES listed timber species for Peninsular Malaysia and the Federal Territory of Labuan.

In line with this responsibility, MTIB announced an export quota for 2026 for Ramin timber products sourced from wild (W) is 5,000 m³. While export quota for Karas/Agarwood products sourced from wild (W) is 5,000 kg.

Applications for export quotas for Karas/Gaharu, and Ramin timber products can be submitted beginning today and must adhere to the terms and conditions. The CITES permit application guide can be found here [https://www.mtib.gov.my/perkhidmatan/pendaftaran/cites].
